Something I’m seeing far too often? Assuming people know exactly how to work with you.
Like, everyone is just going to magically stumble onto your website, devour every page, and earn a PhD in exactly how you can help them.
Spoiler Alert: It Wont.
Here’s the thing: your audience is busy, distracted, and likely scrolling through their feed while waiting in line for coffee. If your messaging is vague or unclear, they’ll scroll right past it without a second thought.
I can’t tell you how many creatives I see on social where I still have zero idea what they actually do. They’ve got pretty branding and clever captions, but I’m left wondering:
+ What exactly do they offer?
+ Who do they serve?
+ How can they help me?
If your audience has to work to figure these things out, you’ve already lost them.
What You Need to Communicate (Clearly and Often)
Here’s what you need to be spelling out regularly in your content:
1. What do you do?
Get specific. Are you a branding strategist who helps small businesses create cohesive visuals? A VA who specializes in streamlining admin workflows? Spell it out.
2. Who do you do it for?
gain, specificity is key. Are you helping service-based businesses, course creators, wedding photographers, or tech startups? Make it clear who your offer is meant for.
3. What transformation do you create?
-
What’s the specific result people can expect when they work with you?
For example:
-
“I help service-based businesses go from inconsistent bookings to fully booked out months in advance.”
-
“I help wedding photographers reduce admin overwhelm and take back 10+ hours a week with streamlined workflows.”
Clarity isn’t just a nice-to-have; it’s critical to your sales. Your audience isn’t going to connect the dots for you—you have to do that for them.
Assume Your Audience Has No Idea What You Do
This might feel like over-explaining, but here’s the truth: you need to spell it out regularly.
If you’re not repeating yourself in your content, you’re being forgettable. People need to see the same message multiple times before it really sinks in.
For example:
-
Regularly post about your services and how they help your clients.
-
Share success stories and transformations.
-
Remind your audience how they can work with you. (Yes, even if you’ve posted about it 10 times already.)
Action + Repetition = Clarity
Your goal is to make your messaging unmissable. If your ideal client only skims one post of yours while they’re distracted, they should still walk away knowing exactly what you do, who you help, and the result you provide.
By taking action (clearly communicating your offers) and repeating that action (so it sticks), you’ll build the clarity your audience needs to take the next step with you.
So, are you being vague? Or are you making your offers crystal clear? If you’re not sure, it’s time to revisit your messaging and start spelling it out. Repetition might feel tedious to you, but it’s transformative for your sales.
Make it specific. Make it unmissable. And watch your audience go from confused to ready-to-buy.
